I purchased Ventusky with a lifetime licence

A few years ago, I purchased Ventusky with a lifetime licence. However, I can now see that my licence is set to expire on July 8. This seems inconsistent with the purchase terms from a few years ago. Could you please check this and confirm why the licence is showing an expiry date? Thank you.

What do you mean by "lifetime licence"? I can see that the subscription paired with your account is from Android. There used to be a one-time paid version of the app, but it was only for iOS.

There has never been a lifetime license for Ventusky. The iOS app was originally sold as a paid app on the App Store, and as a token of our appreciation, users who bought it back then are currently given access to Premium features because they have supported and used the app since the very beginning. A paid app is not the same as a subscription (even a paid app can offer additional subscriptions).

As a regular user, I did not make a technical distinction between a “paid app”, “subscription”, “Premium”, iOS or Android licensing models. What matters from my perspective is the actual user experience: I was early Ventusky users, I paid once for access, and for the last several years Premium features worked for me without any additional payments.

That is why I understood this purchase as a one-time / lifetime-type access. Until now, nothing suggested to me that this access would expire or that the rules had changed.

So my question is not about the legal definition of a “lifetime licence”, but about what has changed now. Why did Premium work for several years after my one-time purchase, and why is it suddenly showing an expiry date on July 8?

I would appreciate a clear explanation of what changed in my account or in your licensing system.

I dont know which version of the app you have originaly purchased, but your current subscription is tied with your Android account. For Android, there was never an option to buy the app in a one-time purchase ("lifetime"), there was always a subscritpion model. If you have previously bought the app for iOS you must have either buy it again for Android or you use some shared account that bought the subscription for Android and this replaced your previous iOS license.

Sorry, I have now found the old Google Play renewal email and I can see what happened.

It confirms that I had an annual subscription for Ventusky, charged at 12.99 PLN per year. Because the amount was very small and the renewal was automatic, I simply did not notice it over the years. That is why I mistakenly thought it was a one-time / lifetime-type purchase.

Could you please confirm whether this old annual subscription plan can still be renewed, or whether I now need to choose one of the current Premium plans?

If the subscription is still active (its expiration date has not yet passed), it can still be renewed. See: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/70184..., it appears that your subscription will not renew automatically because it is no longer available at that price. You should receive an email in advance with the new price and a request to accept it. Please check if you have received this email and accept the price change. Once you do, your subscription should renew.
