Suggesting different colours for the temperature scale

Ваши отзывы и предложения

Hello all,

I think the temperature colour scale can be improved. Temperatures on the website start to look "hot" around 23C which may be true for cooler Europe countries but in the rest of the world, is not really a hot temperature. For many it is just a comfortable, normal temperature.

Also, I think that the colours for temperatures above 25C do not look like how they feel, and from 30-50C, are washed out and too similar.

I have looked at the Ventusky colour codes and suggested a new balanced colour ramp.

Ventusky colour codes (Hex): -15C: 291e6a, -10C: 5650ab, -5C: 4178be, 0C: 4eb195, 5C: 5cca4d, 10C: b7da40, 15C: e1ce39, 20C: e09f41, 25C: dc6d55, 30C: b73466, 35C: 9b4a6d, 40C: 6b1527, 45C: 6f414d, 50C: 2b0001

Suggested colour codes (Hex): -15C: 312da3, -10C: 5955c8, -5C: 716dda, 0C: 768be4, 5C: 89afda, 10C: 7ac5d0, 15C: 79cdae, 20C: a6cd79, 25C: ebe65a, 30C: ec974c, 35C: ec5b4c, 40C: c72525, 45C: 8b0f0f, 50C: 510b0b

I have visualised the two colour ramps and attached the image below. Below -15C the current colours are fine.

Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback.

We are not considering a change — it's always subjective, and we've been using the current scale for almost 10 years. Constantly changing things is the worst approach.

Thanks for the reply. I understand the temperature scale is subjective, but if it hasn't been changed in 10 years then how is it being constantly changed? 🤣Sometimes a fresh look can be beneficial.

I really think the issue is the "pivot colour" at 15 degrees being yellow, i.e. generally considered a "warm" colour - it conjures thoughts of the sun, fire etc. If it could be pushed up a few degrees (to 20 or 25) that would improve the usability and perception of the weather using the site.

When using the site I think the temperatures displayed from 10-20 degrees look too "warm" and from 30-50 look too similar - they're almost all the same shade of purple/red which makes it hard to distinguish the temperatures without using the cursor to check the value.. :)
