Android widget broken

My Android widget won't connect. Did a recent update cause this? Without this function, the app is practically useless on a phone. The app itself works but I have to go into it and check what the forecasts will be. The "at a glance" aspect is gone. Is this a known problem? Will this be remedied in another update?

Damian

Thank you for your report. We haven’t changed anything in the widgets in the last six months. So if the problem has suddenly appeared now, it’s not related to an update. Please try reinstalling the app.

Good Evening, I am a new premium subscriber. I have a Samsung S25 Ultra; all software is up to date. After installing your app, when I try to install the widget from the drawer, it always fails. It tries to download, but later it fails. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but it still didn't solve my problem. Can somebody guide me in the right direction? Thank you

Does the app crash, or is it just the widget that fails to load the data?

Hello Damian,
I am not sure if your problem has been resolved by Ventusky tech, I was having same problem, but after waiting 4 days for Ventusky tech reply, I find the solution, actually after android update 8.0 on my S25 ultra it seems the system have put many high battery drain app into restricted access, after removing Ventusky app from restrictive mode and giving full battery access it solved my problem, hope this will help you, anyway I deleted Ventusky app and returned back to Windy because of fast reply. Thank you

Thank you for your report. Unfortunately, the widget settings are quite dependent on the phone itself, and in general, some phones simply prevent updates. We try to carry them out more frequently to ensure that the widgets have up-to-date and fresh model data, but certain phones may end up blocking those updates.

I’ve already tried a clean reinstall on my Samsung A54 (Android 16), but unfortunately, the widget still isn't working. I really love the app, so I'm hoping there's a permanent fix on the way to match the new coming Premium price hike!

Thanks for the tip, anilsingh! Something I would have expected from the folks at Ventusky. However, it got me thinking and I set off to try a few things. I finally got it working on my A54 (Android 16). Even though my settings were already correct, (a re-install hadn't worked), I had to clear the cache and reboot to wake the widget up. Here is the checklist that worked for me:

Battery: Set to 'Unrestricted' (App Info > Battery).
Location: Set to 'Allow all the time' (App Info > Permissions).

The Fix:
Go to App Info > Storage > Clear Cache, then immediately reboot the phone.

Clearing the cache plus the reboot seemed to have done the trick and cleared the 'unable to download data' error. I love the app, so I'm glad it's back in action before the August price hike, still not sure whether I will pay that.

Thank you for sharing the procedure. We will also check why it was necessary to clear the cache.
