Models completely wrong/missing rain

This has happened several times recently. I am in NYC. It is raining, and has been for 30 minutes, in certain areas very hard. The radar shows a huge system stretching probably 1000 miles west and a bit south. Nary a model of the 6 available, updated seemingly every hour, has any inkling of rain. What gives? How do I actually get something that does not ignore reality?

A weather model is always just a forecast, and in the case of thunderstorms it may not be accurate. The actual conditions are shown by the radar.
