Suggestion regarding lightning display on the rain radar

Hello everyone,

I’m writing to give a small suggestion regarding the “rain radar” layer. I’ve noticed that lightning strikes are often very hard to see, especially because they’re displayed in red, which blends with the red areas representing the heaviest precipitation. Additionally, the lightning icon often appears quite small or even broken up, making it necessary to zoom in a lot to identify the strikes clearly.

I’m also not sure if the red lightning icon indicates older lightning strikes or just the probability of lightning in that area — some clarification on that would be helpful too.

It would be great to have lightning strikes displayed in a more distinguishable color (for example, black or purple) and perhaps with a slightly larger or clearer icon, so that recent lightning can be more easily distinguished from past strikes.

Thanks again for your work, and I hope this feedback is helpful!

It shows areas where lightning is forecast or observed over a longer time period (depending on the time step on the axis – so it could be 3 hours or 5 minutes). In contrast, the white lightning icons represent real-time lightning strikes. We are not currently considering changing the color scheme.
