How to Create Impressive Weather Videos with Ventusky

Do you want to share a weather forecast map with others? Ventusky offers easy-to-use sharing tools. You can choose to create a screenshot, which automatically includes a scale and labels. You can also embed maps using an iframe (refer to our earlier article). In this guide, we’ll share tips for creating captivating videos with Ventusky.

The Basics: Screen Recording
The simplest way to create a video is by using screen recording. This feature is available on most devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and computers. Here are guides for different platforms:

Understand Licensing Rights
Before you start recording, it’s important to consider licensing. With Ventusky, however, it's easy in this case. You are free to use screen-recorded maps from Ventusky for any purpose. We appreciate it when you credit us as the source and include our logo in your video. You can find logos in various formats on our About page.

Optimizing the Map for Recording
Decide what you want to record and fine-tune the map settings. In the app or web version, you’ll find useful customization options under Settings, for example:

  • Units: Set the units as needed (for example °C or °F).

  • Values on the Map: Display values like temperature or wind speed directly on the map, especially over cities. You can also enlarge these values for better visibility in your video.
  • Enhancements: Highlight wind animations or display frontal systems to make your maps look more professional.

  • On the website, you can also disable the GUI by pressing the "P" key. In the mobile apps, hiding the GUI is not supported.

Settings
Set up the map exactly how you want it to appear in the video.

Once you’ve adjusted the settings, turn on the animation (use our Play button). The map will start moving, and you can begin recording. How long you record is entirely up to you.

Final Touches
After recording, enhance your video with editing software (you can use for example
ActivePresenter
or CapCut):

  • Speed It Up: Accelerate the video playback (e.g., 4x) to make wind patterns or air masses more dynamic and engaging.

  • Add Text Annotations: Label key elements to help viewers understand what they’re seeing.

  • Include the Scale: Add a scale from the website for additional context.
